HAPPY AUGUST EVERYONE! August isn’t just the month of the Filipino language and culture. It’s also the month of honing our drawing skills! If you’ve always wanted to improve your traditional art skills, or have felt that you’re in dire need of a drawing refresher course, this is the challenge for you!
#GuhitAgosto is a 31-Day Traditional Sketching Challenge with a very extensive day-to-day training! If you’re interested, keep on reading! Underneath is a very detailed curriculum designed by Faye Bergonia specifically for this challenge.
AUGUST 31-DAY TRADITIONAL SKETCH CHALLENGE
Note: All figures have to be NAKED. You are allowed to use references. Keep in mind to only use minimal stylization.
WEEK ONE: Proportions (Only light drawing)
Day 01: Head Shot – Bald Ideal* female facial proportion (front, side, back)
Day 02: Head Shot – Bald Ideal* male facial proportion (front, side, back)
Day 03: 8 heads male figure (front, side, back)
Day 04: 8 heads female figure (front, side, back)
Day 05: Head Shot – Self-Portrait (front, side, back) Note: Don’t go with ideal*.
Day 06: X heads full body Self-Portrait (front, side, back)
Day 07: Chosen character turn around
WEEK TWO: Gesture Drawing (Only light drawing)
Note: Maximum of 1 minute per figure.
Day 08: 30 sec gesture drawing
Day 09: Standing poses
Day 10: Sitting poses
Day 11: Walking poses
Day 12: Fancy poses
Day 13: Action poses
Day 14: Everything
WEEK THREE: Details
Day 15: Head Shot – DETAILED Bald Self-Portrait (front, side, back)
Day 16: 6 DETAILED hand poses
Day 17: DETAILED foot (front, side, back)
Day 18: DETAILED Idealized Muscular Female Armless Torso (front, side, back)
Day 19: DETAILED Idealized Muscular Male Armless Torso (front, side, back)
Day 20: DETAILED Arm straight flexed (left and right, from two angles)
Day 21: DETAILED Leg straight flexed (left and right, from two angles)
WEEK FOUR: Shading
Day 22: Head Shot – Self-Portrait WITH SHADING (front, side, back)
Day 23: Hand WITH SHADING (front, side, back)
Day 24: Foot WITH SHADING (front, side, back)
Day 25: Female torso WITH SHADING (front, side, back)
Day 26: Male Torso WITH SHADING (front, side, back)
Day 27: Arm Straight Flexed WITH SHADING (right and left)
Day 28: Leg Straight Flexed WITH SHADING (right and left)
WEEK FIVE: Final Sketch Exercises
Day 29: Action line: draw three random squiggly lines, use them as guides to make a pose, draw a figure from the pose
Day 30: Draw three faces (ideal*, longer, shorter) with full shading
Day 31: Free sketch

I can doodle while I am bored or talking on the phone, but I never had the talent to draw. I envy people who can sketch and draw, especially the human body.

Ahhhh. Sketching, drawing … are my frustrations. I took lessons before but never learned, lol. But I can always give it another try.

I am not really good in drawing. I AM NOT. But thinking about it, if I’ll start with basic sketches and if I’ll challenge myself to draw everyday, I might improve right?
