Axent Wear: The Cat Ear Headphones Everyone is Talking About

It was November 2014 when I supported the crowdfunding of two ladies, Wenqing Yan (Yuumei) and Victoria Hu, with a dream to produce these beautiful cat ear headphones that use the cat ears as speakers. Axent Wear was started by two UC Berkeley alumni with an idea. An idea for some really great, unique headphones that had never been pioneered before. Or at least, not like this.

Presenting Axent Wear, glowing, badass headphones that let you blast your music and express your style.
Axent Wear was born, funded via Indiegogo. In a few months, they have garnered over 100% of their asking support from many fans from all over the world. They asked for $250,000 to make this dream come true, and received over $3,000,000 from backers all over the world.

The initial scheduled launch was on April 2015. But a few months after their Indiegogo campaign closed, we never heard from them about Axent Wear. Many backers complained and many more thought that the whole thing was a scam and demanded refunds.
One of the makers, Yuumei, spoke out and revealed that she and her partner have been having issues and have escalated to legal procedures; and the project became very delayed. Amidst the public outrage, Yuumei promised that Axent Wear will be produced and shipped to all its backers. A few more months passed and we heard only from the personal account of Yuumei (since Victoria had the direct access to the Indiegogo campaign and she had lost access to that) about the proceedings that were going on. Time went by, lawyers were called, and updates were seldom when one day the official Indiegogo campaign update announced that the issue has been resolved and that they had partnered up with Brookestone for the production of Axent Wear.

A year later, here we are with the fully produced Cat Ear Headphones. Being one of the first people in the world to have this is amazing. In an event, I met two more people who had been backers. Filled with glee and excitement, we showed each other our Axent Wears and high fived one another for our great taste. We became instant friends. It was great fun and even greater fashion!

The Review

It’s sleek, beautiful, and everthing I had ever imagined it would be. I love the way it glows when you turn on the LED and how the buttons are discreetly placed and easily accessed below one ear cup.
The detachable inline has controls over sounds, play, pause, as well as rewind and forward. Axent Wear also includes a detachable gaming mic, a charging cord, and a hard protective case.

It’s over the ear cushion is very comfortable and the headphones isn’t as heavy as I thought it would be. It’s actually pretty light. The sound is great, in my opinion!

Unfortunately, there is a problem with its left headphone because that side has noticeably less volume than the right. After a few days, the glow on the left has diminished too. This made me really sad.

For $150 or Php 6750, (with shipping and no trip to the Customs) I think it’s worth the price, but since this is the first shipping, I’m sure there are a lot of improvements that still need to be worked on. For instance, in the future, I hope the bugs that we’ve been experiencing should be gone, and that they develop something that could be used wirelessly.
The support staff isn’t responding either. I hope that they fix their customer support as soon as they can.

Update: The support staff has responded to me last month. They had shipped me a free replacement for the defective item and I’m quite happy with it.
