GameCon 2017: Creating a Bigger Gaming Community

Gamecon’s first ever event was held in SM Megamall’s Event Centers last <>. Although it wasn’t as huge as the usual growing conventions here in the Philippines, it’s definitely a great step in the right direction.

Game Developers and Game Developers To Be

With so many games being created on a daily basis, GameCon made sure to share the spotlight with its makers. A few local game companies were in attendance, showing off their AMAZING developed games and inspiring many more future game developers out there. They even held a developers workshop for free to anyone attending. A lot of dedicated game developers came and shared their expertise with the crowd and gave sound advice.

Digital and Table Top Games

Game Con featured both digital games and table top games. With game competitions in Tekken, League of Legends, and King of Tokyo, they also did not forget the roots of these strategy games: Table top games.

Table Top Games

GameCon provided a multitude of players space to fulfill their nerdy adventures. Personally, I know that one of the hardest things to consider during table top games are the location of the games. Somewhere relatively quiet, but tolerant of noise. A place that is accessible and okay with people staying for hours and hours at a time. And most importantly, a place with HUGE tables to set up the game on.

There were Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 20k, and X-Wing Miniature to name a few. A few tournaments and campaigns ran during the time and I can see a lot of people enjoying themselves.

Dungeons and Dragons for Beginners

A lot of you would be familiar with the famous table top game Dungeons and Dragons, a local community of Dungeon Masters and D&D players have pitched in and invited a lot of people who have never played D&D to play. Teaching the basics and introducing the community to the newbies was such a great way to get more people to play table top games.

If you want to learn more about them, you can visit Dungeons and Dragons: Adventurer’s League PH

Side Quests

Aside from the table top games and game exhibits that were occupying majority of the open space, there were a lot of other ongoings during the event.

  • Neko Maid Cafe
  • RoboRumble
  • VR Experience
  • Cosplay Competition
  • Game Merchandise
  • Arcade Games
  • On the Spot Game Art Competition

With the step GameCon took, I hope that it continues and I’m looking forward to lot more GameCons in the future! In 2018, early on they already have one scheduled. Come with us to GameCon February 10-11,2017 in Mega Trade Hall 2, SM Megamall!
